The other day I received a phone call in the morning before I went off to work. It was a friend sharing the news that a Star Trek sequel was confirmed.
I was not surprised about the news. The buzz of a sequel has been making its way around the Internet since Paramount started to share snippets of what Star Trek XI was all about.
I think it is clear that this new film will attract a younger generation. I have heard some comments from younger people that they are interested in seeing the film, and they are impressed with the trailers.
For the die-hard (and usually older) fans this news may come as a mixed blessing. What might attract a younger audience may very well turn the die hard fans away. Let's hope J.J. Abrams and his crew have struck a balance.
So when new and old fans (and the curious viewers) make their way to the theatres on May 9, they will do so with the knowledge that a second film is in the making (for 2011, apparently).
Sweet deal. Now if they could only start developing a new television series.
